TPCs

The NA49 apparatus consists of several very large volume "tracking detectors" (technically called "Time Projection Chambers") within and outside of a magnetic field. These detectors sample particle trajectories many times along each trajectory, and the resultant measured "raw space points" are connected back together into "tracks" by software. In these images you see both raw space points and the results of track "reconstruction" via software.
